About Insurance and Pensions Supervision  

The Insurance and Pensions Supervision is responsible for the supervision of insurance companies, insurance intermediaries, retirement schemes, retirement funds and retirement service providers. The team employs professionals with a varied background and comprises skills relating to insurance, pensions, accounting, legal, quantitative analysis, actuarial skills, compliance and others. 

The Role  

The Senior Manager will manage a multidisciplinary team carrying out analytical duties related to compliance of pensions and retirement schemes licence holders in line with their regulatory obligations emanating from their operating licences.  

This work is undertaken as part of the on-going off-site and on-site supervisory process undertaken by the MFSA on licence holders. The main purpose of this process is to monitor the level of compliance with the applicable regulatory standards by licence holders and eventually the regulatory obligations emanating from the Retirement Pensions Act.  

The selected candidate is expected to have experience in pensions, retirement and other related areas such as investment business. 

Your duties will include:  

  • Lead the Pensions and Retirement Schemes team in both off-site and on-site supervision;  

  • Oversee the continued development of pension regulation;  

  • Provide general guidance to other junior members of staff within the team; including in-house training;  

  • Involve himself/herself in ‘ad hoc’ assignments related to specific regulatory and supervisory issues that arise from time to time; 

  •  Attend/hold meetings with licence holders together with other meetings as required;  

  • Assist in the development of procedures and following up international regulatory developments. 

About You  

We are looking for candidates with relevant academic background in financial services. The role calls for an academic qualification in a relevant field of study at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level.  

The applicant should also possess a minimum of eight (8) years working in a related area in the financial services sector. Candidates with longer working experience relevant to the role will be preferred.
