Job Description

A local blue-chip Group of companies with an international footprint, operating in all sectors of the economy, is recruiting a Head of IT for its Healthcare cluster in Mauritius. The successful candidate will be responsible for strategic, operational and tactical aspects relating to the technological environment of the business units.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, vision, and management to the IT department
  • Work with the senior management and directors to assess and respond to IT needs
  • Manage IT staff in the department
  • Hold departmental meetings to review strategic goals and initiatives, promote team building and work to provide growth paths for staff
  • Provide day-to-day supervision, conduct performance appraisals, and delegate work assignments for all IT personnel
  • Assist in recruiting, hiring, and providing appropriate training for IT staff
  • Serve on planning and policy-making committees
  • Oversee the development, design, and implementation of new applications and changes / upgrades to existing computer systems and software packages
  • Responsible for the acquisition, inventorying, and disposition of hardware and software
  • Serve as primary contact with outside vendors in the generation of RFPs, bids, contracts, agreements, and other major vendor interactions, Systems Operations and Maintenance
  • Maintain the integrity and continual operation of the IT operating environment as per internal agreed SLA
  • Ensure the continual functioning of mission critical operations
  • Maintain security and privacy of the information systems, communication lines, and equipment
  • Develop, review, and certify all back-up and disaster recovery procedures and plans
  • Work with the management team to provide strategic lead on technology, analysing and prioritising developments, outlining opportunities and ensuring a pro-active and innovative approach to our work
  • Accountable for the delivery of all technology related to infrastructure and applications and ongoing enhancements
  • Development of a cross-global technology strategy in line with corporate aspirations
  • Continue strategic approach, innovation and best practices in the use of technology
  • Work with the management team to ensure market leading technology and tools for digital engagement to deliver first class content and interaction online
  • Manage development plans, business proposals, budgets, delivery time estimates and meeting those time estimates
  • Utilise project management methodology to enhance business communication and to provide user scenarios for developments
  • Oversee out-sourced software development relationships, development and delivery

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in IT or Masters preferred
  • Certification in Project Management, ERP implementation, Design and Architecture
  • 5-10 years experience managing an IT Department
  • Workflow Design experience
  • Solid hands-on experience on ERP implementation, Datacentre Management, Network and security operations, application support
  • Must have run some major process re-engineering projects
  • Background of application programming, database programming, database administration preferable
  • Significant experience in managing IT projects from inception to delivery
  • Strong understanding of software development, systems management and project management
  • High awareness of the current technology for web development and a passion to seek more information on the future
