Job Description

A global player focusing on Specialty & Corporate lines, with coverage and an on-the-ground presence across Africa, combining the reach and strength of one of the largest global Property & Casualty insurers with excellent international financial strength ratings is seeking to recruit a top Compliance Officer  to be based in Mauritius.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement a policy and procedure Program for the general operations and related activities to prevent illegal, unethical or improper conduct
  • Follow Compliance & Ethics guide, Standards and Professional Policy Manual
  • Develop, review and update Standards of Conduct to ensure business continuity
  • Collaborate with other departments (Risk Management, Internal Audit and Management Agent)
  • Direct compliance issues to appropriate existing channels for investigation and resolution
  • Consult with the corporate attorney as needed to resolve difficult legal compliance issues
  • Respond to alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and Standards of Conduct by evaluating or recommending the initiation of investigative procedures
  • Act as an independent review and evaluation body to ensure that compliance Issues/concerns within the organization are being appropriately evaluated, investigated and resolved
  • Monitor and coordinate compliance activities of other departments to remain abreast of the status of all compliance activities and to identify trends
  • Identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk
  • Develop and implement corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues
  • Provide reports on a regular basis keeping senior management informed of progress of compliance efforts
  • Work with the Human Resources Department and others as appropriate to develop an effective compliance training program
  • Comply with Anti-Money Laundering Act, Bribery Act and International Sanctions
  • Mitigate the risk of Financial Crime
  • Develop a yearly Annual Compliance Plan to define the mitigation actions to put in place

Qualifications and Experience

  • Candidate must possess a degree in law or a tertiary level of education (Master’s preferred)
  • At least 7 years experience working within an international environment in Finance, Insurance...(pref UK, Africa)
  • A proactive approach to solving problems and delivering client solutions
  • Organised, multitasking person who is able to work in a challenging environment;
  • Excellent analytical skills, with an eye for detail
