Team Leader - Credit Underwriting

Our client is recruiting a Team Leader – Credit Underwriting who will support the credit underwriting in the daily credit application assessment & follow-up, to mitigate risk of lending to customers by providing a critical analysis of customers credit applications towards business decisions. The successful candidate will also support management in the leadership and development of the team as well as providing relevant reports to upper management as and when required.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Analyze credit applications as received from sales department
  • Compute DTI and financial ratios where applicable
  • Assess the credit worthiness of the customer and their financial health
  • Perform due diligence on KYC, collateral, pricing and other factors where applicable
  • Adhere to all regulatory guidelines, internal policies and procedures
  • Propose adequate conditions to mitigate risk
  • Prepare credit applications, inclusive of credit analysis and summaries of credit facility requests, and submit to relevant credit authority for approval
  • Assist in the improvement of current processes and procedures
  • Adhere to agreed internal and external SLA’s
  • Retain a 360 degree view of application and maintain a body of knowledge on current and emerging best practices and processes
  • Support Credit Underwriting leadership team in the formulation of department’s strategy and ensure proper mechanism is in place to track performance
  • Update reports, tracking and complete, file, scan and data storage as per the department’s requirement
  • Provide periodic reports on strategy, targeted initiatives and progress to achieve business objectives
  • Act as key advisor to business, provide guidance on projects and impact of change initiatives
  • Coach, develop and motivate team, and evaluate performance for growth opportunities
  • Ensure the right calibre of staff is recruited in accordance with company policy and procedures
  • Ensure that poor performance is remedied via support, training or disciplinary action as appropriate
  • Build a positive team culture with strong positive engagement
  • Maintain good relationship with key stakeholders and provide good customer service

Qualifications & Experience

  • Preferably a degree holder – Finance/Accounting or related fields
  • At least 5 years’ experience in Credit underwriting with leadership experience
  • Ability to use MS Excel, including pivots, macros and formulas
  • Oral and written communication and analytical Skills
  • Knowledge of Financial products
  • Demonstrated level of competency in the skills and knowledge as required
  • Clear understanding of policies and procedures
  • Promptness in project and task delivery
