About Financial Stability

The Financial Stability function is responsible for identifying and assessing risks which have the potential to spread within the financial sector and the real economy (systemic risks).  Through its own research and analysis of the financial sector, which covers the banking, insurance and securities sectors, the function contributes to the formulation of policies aimed at mitigating identified risks.


The Role

As Senior Analyst within Financial Stability you will mainly be assisting in the mentoring, guiding and developing of more junior team member as well as working on the following:

  • Undertaking advanced research utilising econometric and financial modelling, which will ultimately help to unveil risks and vulnerabilities;

  • Actively contributing to the work carried out in the development of a financial system stress testing and sensitivity analysis framework;

  • Contributing to the identification and surveillance of new and emerging risks developing within the financial system;

  • Preparing and reviewing technical and analytical reports and briefing notes on systemic and/or other associated risks;

  • Contribute towards the MFSA’s publications in the area of financial stability.

  • Assisting in the formulation of recommendations on any risk-mitigation or supervisory measures required to address relevant risks;

  • Advising and acting as a point of reference to other members of staff in your area of expertise;

  • Attending and assisting in technical meetings at organisational, national and European level;

  • Reviewing and providing technical feedback on working documents.                


About You

We are looking for candidates with experience in financial sector analysis as well as a keen interest in developing risk monitoring metrics. You will be expected to be flexible and dynamic and add value to a multidisciplinary team responsible for the exercise of the above functions. You are also required to have excellent oral, written and presentation skills.

You must have advanced knowledge of Excel, including VBA, other data analysis packages such as Python and R would be considered as an asset. Similarly, experience in relation to financial stability/research publications will be useful.

The role calls for an academic qualification in Honours Degree in financial, economic or other relevant studies at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level as well as 5 years' experience in a related area.
