Core Network Specialist

Remote position with the ability to travel as required would be desirable in order to work closely with colleagues.

Roles and responsibilities:

The role requires working in an internationally distributed team on the company’s core telco network. This involves working with the technical architects to deliver a geographically redundant, HA network at the signalling levels for STP, HSS and other nodal infrastructure. Capacity management and recommendations for improvements are essential aspects for evolving the core within the fast-changing architecture required to support 4/5G networks and the IoT domains.

Skills Required:


  • Clear communication and documentation skills
  • Office suite (MS word & Excel)
  • Unix, both Solaris and Linux (CentOS) flavours (Solaris not mandatory)
  • Diagnostics and performance checking
  • Understanding of Protocols:
  • Diameter
  • VoIP / SIP
  • SS7 (SCCP, IPX, GRX etc.)

* MAP, USSD, INAP etc.

  • Working with snoop and wireshark
  • Bash / KSH / Shell scripting
  • University degree in it/engineering (indicator of commitment)
  • Industry certifications – Linux/Oracle/Cisco/VMware (indicator of self-development)

Skills in at least 3 of the following:

  • HSS / HLR / STPs;
  • IN and Session control (SCF)
  • Rating and charging logic (OCS)
  • Voice services
  • Messaging services
  • Mobile Data
  • IoT


  • Network architecture
  • NMS / Monitoring
  • Virtualisation and VPNs
  • Working with issue management systems (JIRA, Zendesk)
