A privately held diversified telecommunications group with operations and investments on all five continents, is seeking to recruit a top notch Financial Controller who will be based in Mauritius and responsible for the Financial Reporting and Tax relating activities to the Mauritian and UK entities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement the operational strategy (Actuals, budgeting, forecasting and reporting)
  • Research and investigate best practice for reporting, systems, processes and recommend changes
  • Implement and comply with the requisite Company policies and processes, legal requirements and Governance Best Practice at all times
  • Prepare and update accounting policies and procedures manuals in line with Group policies and procedures
  • Participate in conducting peer to peer reviews in other Ops entities within the Group and ensure that the Group accounting policies and IFRS have been applied
  • Ensure that the Standard Operating and Procedures (SOP) document are distributed to the MUR finance teams and the procedures are applied
  • Identify risks by analyzing current processes, learn from previous mistakes and forecast future risk when onboarding new activities
  • Review subsidiary monthly management accounts to check on the levels of solvency and liquidity
  • Manage relationships with bankers, lenders and business partners including external audit, legal and company advisors
  • Engage with external auditors in audit planning, communication of group deadlines, audit progress, and finalization
  • Meet with staff to discuss and agree medium and short-term objectives
  • Develop a work plan and monitor the progress on a regular basis
  • Train new staff for understanding of detailed procedures on reporting, closing of accounts, processing recharges, etc
  • Manage the audit process on an annual basis to communicate group deadlines to auditors for effective planning
  • Assist in managing the audit fees and reduce audit overruns
  • Pro-actively work towards increasing efficiency and improving quality and speed of delivery of financial information
  • Understand the tax structures and minimise the tax exposure
  • Engage with Tax advisors where necessary to obtain tax opinions on the group structures

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Accounting (Masters preferred)
  • Fully qualified accountant (ACCA/FCCA...) with at least 10 years of post qualifications practise    
  • Cumulative experience of not less than 15 years at senior management level with International exposure
  • Well verse with Auditing and industry practise
  • Good knowledge of accounting softwares (Sage, Hyperion...)
  • Excellent analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and in a matrixed organisation
  • Ability to lead effectively by demonstrating personal drive and strategic thinking
  • Strong skills around resolving conflict and negotiation
  • Ability to motivate and empower people
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to understand business needs, communicate complex systems simply and set realistic expectations around deliverables 
  • Well-developed relationship building skills
