One of the largest brands operating in the marine network is currently looking for a Finance Manager to join it's team.

Reporting to the General Manager you will be responsible for:

Job Description 
  • Approve bank transactions in the online banking systems;
  • Prepare monthly payroll calculations together with the preparation of relevant bank transfers and submission of monthly and yearly statutory forms as required by local authorities including the settlement of personal tax and national insurance (where applicable);
  • Filing of the required returns to the various authorities including VAT returns, National Statistics Office and Inland Revenue Department;
  • Prepare annual corporate and deferred tax calculations, whilst checking the annual corporate tax returns prepared by the tax consultants, and reconciling the tax accounts;
  • Follow up relevant tax issues for WLSM, WLM and WSHM, including Tax Refund Forms, Tonnage Tax Annual Return, CbCR, DDTA and any Advance Revenue Rulings with the tax consultants;
  • Calculate and allocate dividends from the respective tax accounts and propose adequate dividend distributions in board meetings to the board of directors/shareholders as and when necessary;
  • Assist the General Manager in any designated or non-routine tasks, including presentation of financial figures and discuss companies’ financial affairs at Board meetings on a quarterly basis;
  • Review and finalise annual budgets and the comments to the budgets, including the annual calculation of the Accounting & Management Fee to be charged to customers of WLM;
  • Check, review and update any legal contracts, resolutions or Power of Attorneys as and when required;
  • Liaise with Legal and Treasury department to obtain documentation required for KYC procedures and certify any documents as and when required;
  • Liaise with external auditors and ensure that any major issues or audit adjustments and properly handled;
  • Prepare reports as requested by Group Controlling and Accounting department;
  • Prepare the annual statutory accounts;
  • Design and maintain a local processes and procedures manual;
  • Ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of the Finance & Accounting team in accordance with the company's Accounting policies and procedures;
  • Manage the day to day activities of the Finance & Accounting team so as to ensure a proper interaction and flow of information with other departments within the group.
  • Ensure periodic financial reports (including budgets) under his/her charge are accurately prepared and distributed on time and to the relevant parties. All Financial reports are in compliance with IFRS standards or local GAAP as required;
  • Review and analyse, from time to time, the financial operations of the companies and suggest corrective action to the GM when required;
  • Continually review the accounting systems and control environment, implement corrective procedures. 
  • Ensure that relevant and reliable financial information is available in a timely order to enable company decisions to be made;
  • To assist the GM in the completion of the local business plan in-line with group strategy;
  • Maintain accounting knowledge and keep abreast of developments in IFRS, Maltese tonnage taxation and payroll taxes.
Skills and Experience 
  • Fully qualified Accountant with a background in a Big4 company;
  • Minimum 4 years experience in a managerial role;
  • Experience working with a group of companies;
  • Good understanding and knowledge of IFRS;
  • Good professional judgement of accounting principles;
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Excel;
  • Strong leadership and analytical skills;
  • Good command of written and spoken English language;
  • Analytical and capable of transferring theoretical knowledge into practice;
  • Ability to work on own initiative and in a team.
