On the 6th of June, FinanceMalta celebrated their 12th Annual Press Conference, which was held at the Hilton Conference Centre in St.Julians. Castille, the specialist recruitment agency for Tech, Finance & Executive Jobs in Malta were the proud exclusive sponsors once again for the evening networking reception which took place on the eve of the event. FinanceMalta, Malta’s largest conference with regards to Financial services is a must-go for anyone within the Financial Services industry, or anyone wanting to get into it to say the least, with various networking opportunities and discussions taking place.
This year, the conference was titled ‘A Platform for Innovation” - focusing on Fintech and Artificial Intelligence, two giants in the industry, pushing the Financial Service sector forward and also cybercrime, a hot topic which was mentioned due to the outcomes of Fintech and AI.
In attendance was FinanceMalta’s chairman, Kenneth Farrugia, who welcomed over 400 delegates from Malta and abroad. He went on to label Malta as the “perfect platform” for such an industry despite its size, also pointing out that DLT and blockchain are to be on the look out in Malta’s financial services ecosystem.
The conference was chaired by Ms Frederica Taccogna from FTI Consulting, whilst also including an outstanding line-up of professionals within the industry, both local and foreign including the likes of; CEO of the MFSA Joseph Cuschieri, the President of the Institute of Financial Services Practitioners Wayne Pisani, the Senior Content Editor of the Financial Times Live Michael Imerson, the Chairman of the Malta Stock Exchange Joseph Portelli, the advisor to the OECD in Mauritius Loretta Joseph, the Chief Officer Strategy, Policy and Fintech at MFSA Christopher Buttigieg, PwC Partner Forensic Services & Financial Crime Leader, Switzerland Gianfranco Mautone, and the Chairman of the Malta Bankers’ Association Marcel Cassar, among others.
Malta’s Prime Minister, Dr Joseph Muscat also delivered a keynote address, to back him up, Minister for Finance Prof. Edward Scicluna and the Parliamentary’s Secretary, responsible for Financial Services, Digital Economy and Innovation, Silvio Schembri also addressed the conference, with the main highlights being the ‘Innovation Vision 2021’ document and their continuous battle against money laundering.
The event proved to be a success all in all, growing in numbers from previous years and being a highlight in the business conference calendar for Malta.
